just falls short

WESTON'S gutsy all-out attacking approach failed to secure them victory in last Saturday's drawn match with Sandyford, decimated by the rain.

The home side put Sandyford into bat and although half an hour's play was lost due to the weather, a display of tight fielding and accurate bowling restricted them to 100 for 6 with 11 overs left.

Sibtain Haider took four of the six wickets with a wicked spell and upon more rain, tea was taken during the forced break and play didn't resume until 6.30pm.

Weston's determined spirit to win showed with the last 11 overs being bowled in twenty minutes. Haider (6-25 off 19) claimed two more wickets to leave Sandyford on 138 for 8 off the full 55 overs (Jinks 40, Hof 57no).

The weather left only 19 overs for Weston to reach their target and captain Ade Crowe threw caution to the wind, telling his team to go for it.

Wasim hit a good 27 and Ian Allcock contributed with 22 but Weston couldn't quite hit the runs fast enough ending on 84 for 8 after a great effort under the circumstances.

Weston took 7 points, Sandyford took 8.
