POLICE are looking for witnesses to any suspicious circumstances surrounding a house fire in West Street, Crewe, last Wednesday afternoon.

The fire was discovered by a motorist who was driving past the property and reported the fire at 4.15pm on August 11.

The neighbour next door to 441, West Street, also telephoned police after smelling the smoke billowing from the terraced house, opposite Adtranz.

Fire Brigade investigators have confirmed that the fire was started maliciously with curtains set alight, downstairs in the lounge.

The property had smoke damage and the incident could have been much worse as fire may have spread through the whole block of terraced housing on the extremely busy street.

Anyone with any information regarding the incident is asked to call Crewe CID 01270 500222.
