ROLL makers at Crewe are facing their second wave of redundancies this year.

Cuts were made at Sheffield Forgemaster's Weston Road factory in January with the warning that more jobs would go in the machine and engineer shops and the foundry.

Seventeen have already gone. Now a further 39 are set to disappear in the foundry, machine and engineering departments.

The foundry is taking the brunt of the cuts as the company is transferring its roll casting to its Scottish factory, leaving Crewe with the spinning and shaping.

The latest redunduncies are scheduled for October-December.

Engineering Union official Ken Woolley confirmed he was having talks with management and workers' representatives in an advisory capacity.

With the first wave of losses soaking up any volunteers the 290 strong workforce now faces compulsory moves.
