A TEENAGE girl is recovering in hospital after being the victim of a hit-and-run incident in Grappenhall last Friday.

Police are now trying to track down the driver involved in the crash, who apparently fled the scene with his lights turned off.

Amy Noon, aged 15 of Greenfields Avenue, Appleton, was rushed to hospital after the accident, which happened as she tried to cross Knutsford Road near to the Dog and Dart pub at 10pm.

Mum Clair has been holding a vigil by Amy's bedside since Friday.

Clair said: "Amy is still in a lot of pain but she is now safe. She smashed her pelvis and her left thigh, but there was no organ damage, which was what we were worried about. She has been very fortunate, but it is going to take a long time to mend."

Amy, a pupil of Lymm High School, doesn't have any recollection of the incident, and a friend who was with her at the time didn't see it happen.

Amy underwent an operation on Friday to set a bone, and then had more exploratory surgery on Monday. As the Warrington GUARDIAN went to press there was more surgery planned.

"People have been very kind," added Clair. "It has been a horrible time."

Witnesses have told police that a dark coloured hatchback car fled the scene as Amy lay in pain in the road. They believe the driver may have even switched his lights off to avoid detection.

A man was questioned by police on Monday morning, but was released without charge and inquiries into the incident are continuing.

Police spokesperson Jacqui Hanson said that because Knutsford Road is usually quite busy at this time, it was possible that other motorists or pedestrians might have seen the collision and not yet come forward.

Witnesses are being asked to call the town's traffic police if they can help on 652222.
