Mrs Bessie Durnin, wife of the late Mr Peter Durnin, died of chronic bronchial pneumonia on December 21. She was 88.

Mrs Durnin, of Heathercroft Nursing Home, Woolston, formerly of Greenwood Crescent, was born in Warrington and lived in Padgate for 62 years.

At the beginning of her working career she was a tailoress who ran her own business, The Lindsey Shirt Co. Mrs Durnin was later employed as a clerk at the Home Office, Burtonwood, and finally worked as a shipping clerk at Lockers until her retirement.

Her hobbies included reading, sewing and flower arranging.

Mrs Durnin married her first husband, Mr Harry Dunbobbin, and cared for him at home during his last five years.

She later married a second time and nursed Mr Durnin during his latter years.

Mrs Durnin spent the last eight years of her life at Heathercroft as her health deteriorated, but she retained her dry sense of humour and caring personality.

Mrs Durnin leaves a daughter and a brother.

A service was held on December 28 at Walton Lea Crematorium, prior to interment at Walton Lea. The Rev Michael Finlay officiated.
