WARRINGTON Museum is to close for a two-week period while work is being carried out.

The museum will close from March 15 to March 27 while exhibits are moved from four galleries.

The work has been allowed to take place after a generous grant from the WREN Communities Challenge Fund.

However, while the work has to be done, staff are reluctant to move one of the exhibits.

A figure which represents a Buddhist monk is said to have a curse, and Derek Dick, the museum’s audience service officer, said: “All the members of staff who have touched the head in the past have been involved in car accidents!

“It might be a coincidence but nobody wants to risk it!”

Staff are now looking for willing Buddhists to move the head for them.

The opening hours of the museum will also be changing while work is taking place during March and October.

Some of the galleries will also be shut, but the Time Capsule exhibition and other popular galleries will remain open.

The new hours will be 12.30pm to 4.30pm on Monday and Friday during term time and 10am and 4.30pm on Saturdays and school holidays.

If you are a brave Buddhist who is willing to help move the Buddhist figure, contact the museum on 442733.
