Fire service not supplying faulty smoke alarms

CHESHIRE Fire Service has been reassuring residents that the free smoke alarms fitted in the Warrington area are not made by the same company which has been fitting faulty detectors.

National newspaper reports at the weekend claimed that thousands of people have been complaining over Dicon smoke detectors which are supposed to last 10 years.

However many people have found that they start to beep as if they need a replacement battery after only a few years of use.

A spokesman for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said that while the service is aware of the issue arising in other areas, the smoke alarms being fitted in the Warrington area are from a different manufacturer.

Sorry to disagree slightly, but the two fitted by the fire brigade for me about a year and a half ago have both expired some time back. They are the ones where you cant change battery so had to be thrown out.
until now I just assumed that was their lifespan, never expected anywhere close to ten years.
