SHOPPERS have been left short-changed by a stall selling photo frames that never came up with the goods.

Customers were livid after paying for frames from the Memories Galleries outlet based in the Golden Square that haven’t turned up.

Great Sankey resident Jenny Barnes believes she was taken in by ‘a definite scam’.

Jenny visited the stall to order frames as Christmas presents and was told that items had to be paid for in advance.

Jenny, of Carnaby Place, handed over £40 and was promised the goods would be ready on December 23.

Jenny, who works for the Travel Exchange office, said: “I’m always careful about paying for things upfront but I assumed the money would be safe as they were selling inside the shopping centre – it’s not like they were on a street corner.”

But mum-of-two Jenny’s faith proved misguided. She returned to the stall on December 23 to find that her order had not turned up ‘because of poor weather conditions’.

The company promised again that the frames would ‘definitely’ be there on Christmas Eve.

Jenny returned the next day to find the stall had vanished.

She has since received numerous text messages claiming the order is on the way but the most recent, on Sunday, said that Memories Galleries, whivh also trades under Spaces for You, could not give a date for delivery or refund.

Jenny has given up hope of either ever materialising.

She added: “It’s just one excuse after another.

“They’re obviously hoping that people forget about it and don’t ask for their money back.”

Cheryl Woodcock paid £35 for photo frames as part of her daughter’s Christmas present.

She still hasn’t got them, despite also being told they would be ready on December 23.

Cheryl, of Elmtree Avenue, Padgate, received the same text on January 3 explaining the company couldn’t set a date for refund.

She said: “They’ve said sorry but it hardly seems promising.

“It will put people off from buying off these stalls when a lot of them are genuine – I won’t be doing it again.”

A Golden Square spokesman said: “Golden Square is aware that Memories Gallery has been unable to fulfil some of its orders.

“The reasons for this are currently being investigated.

“Memories Galleries has stated that all affected customers will receive a full refund and Golden Square is making every effort on behalf of these customers to resolve this matter as quickly as possible.”
