PENKETH Swimming Pool has been transformed by a £30,000 facelift thanks to a grant secured by the parish council.
Penketh parish councillors were delighted to receive confirmation that the swimming baths on Honiton Way would be benefiting from the large cash injection.
Penketh Parish Council applied to WREN, which distributes the landfill communities funds of Waste Recycling Group to worthwhile community projects located within 10 miles of an active landfill site. The grant of £30,000 was earmarked to build a new roof to the swimming pool and hall, which were built in the 1960s and had become outmoded and in desperate need of a revamp.
The building’s new look now features a water theme in white and aqua colours and is in keeping with the modern features available at the pool including defibrilators to help resuscitate those suffering from heart problems.
Penketh Parish Council chairman Clr Linda Dirir said: “We are very pleased that we have been able to access this funding from WREN – the new roof would not have been possible without it.
“The massive Arpley Landfill Site is actually in Penketh and it has a negative impact on the community due to HGVs, odours and so forth.
“It is good therefore for us to receive something positive from landfill tax.”
