CHESHIRE Police’s largest operation targeting the supply of powdered cocaine focused on the town centre.

Following on from the series of dawn raids executed across Warrington, police accompanied by drugs dogs carried out high visibility patrols last Friday.

Officers also worked alongside licensing officials to conduct checks at pubs, bars and clubs across the town and its outskirts.

Inspector Richard Reeves, from Warrington Town Centre NPU, said: “During the visits officers talked to licensees, checked that licensing conditions were being adhered to and offered any advice or support if needed.

“Licensees were very supportive of the operation and it was pleasing to see that everything was in order and no major issues were identified.

“The high-profile police presence and the drugs dog acted as a good deterrent and helped to get the message across that drug-related crime will not be tolerated in Warrington.”

No-one was arrested throughout the course of the night-time operation and no section 27 notices banning people from town were issued.

Insp Reeves added: “A peaceful night was had by all and it passed without any incidents.

“The success of the night-time operation reinforces the good work that is being carried out in the town centre by police and partners – including licensees and door staff.

“We are all committed to working together to reducing alcohol and drug-related crime and disorder and operations such as this help to get the message across loud and clear that those who are involved in this sort of activity are not welcome in Warrington.”

Police hope the high profile series of dawn raids, followed by the night-time proactive operation, will help to crack down on drug misuse.

Representatives from partner agencies including the Drug Action Team were involved in the operation and will continue to ensure that welfare, drug dependency and community reassurance issues are addressed.
