ORGANISERS of the annual Penketh Community Primary School bonfire are thanking all who helped to make the event go off with a bang.

Some 1,645 people weathered the rain on Saturday, November 7, to attend the 30th annual bonfire Lee Bradbury, chairman of the Parents and Friends Association, said: “The three hours of fun is really a four day event for the PFA and it could not happen without help from the parent and teacher volunteers.

“During these difficult times for business it was heart-warming to see the same companies help the committee with donations of products and services.

“And on behalf of all the children at our school who will benefit from the money raised, a very big thank you must go to Alfred Jones SPA shops, Speedy Hire Warrington, Mr A Gamon, Veolia and all those who braved the weather to support us.”

In the past the cash has bought 10 new computers, photographic equipment, a refurbished school library with the children choosing the books with guidance from teachers, subsidised school trips and Christmas parties.

Mr Bradbury added: “We have already began planning the 2010 event which will be bigger and better than ever.”
