A HOMELESS man has been banned from kicking and dancing after magistrates’ imposed a two year CRASBO.

Chris Berry was handed the order at Halton Magistrates’ Court following a number of complaints from residents.

The 54-year-old is prohibited from:

* Dancing, sitting or lying down on roads.

* Striking, kicking or attempting to strike or kick any vehicle.

* Urinating or defecating in any place where he can be seen from a public footpath or highway.

* Being abusive to or threatening to cause injury to a person.

* Swearing when it can be heard in a public place.

* Possessing an open container containing alcohol on any public footpath or road.

* Consuming alcohol in any of the named areas.

This order is valid until September 5, 2011.

Attention was drawn to Berry when a fan group dedicated to the vagrant, who used to live in a tent off Chester Road, Walton, was set up on the social networking website Facebook last year.

More than 7,000 people joined the group last year that resulted in motorists beeping three times as they passed him.

Inspector Gary McIntyre, of Warrington South Neighbourhood Policing Unit, said: “Christopher Berry has persistently acted in an anti-social manner in the area.

"Police and partners have made significant efforts to try to engage with him, address his behaviour and to help him move forward with his life. Unfortunately, he has refused to work with us and, in the end, we were left with no option but to apply for the CRASBO.

“The conditions imposed reflect how seriously the police, the courts and partner agencies take anti-social behaviour.

"These orders are not applied for as a knee-jerk reaction - they form part of an ongoing strategy to address the behaviour of certain individuals.

“We keep a close eye on people who are made the subject of these orders to ensure they are effective.

"The local community is encouraged to support this work by providing officers with details of any anti-social activity in their area.”
