ANGRY wind turbine workers and trade unionists gathered this morning to protest against the loss of 600 jobs.
Workers for Vestas on Birchwood Park showed their solidarity to colleagues in the Isle of Wight who saw their factory close on July 31.
The action was part of a nationwide day of protest that saw demonstrations and rallies taking place across the country.
A spokesman said: “Our peaceful protest on Wednesday morning is to draw attention to the loss of 600 high-skilled jobs thanks to corporate greed and shareholder short-termism.
“Jobs and especially ‘green’ jobs are urgnetly needed, yet Vestas is throwing 600 out of work and the Government is idly standing by.”
The union is fighting to get the factory in the Isle of Wight back into production with help from environmental activists.
Bob Crow, general secretary of the RMT, which represents a substantial block of the Vestas workforce said: “The day of action gives everyone a chance to send a clear message to the company and to the Government that this is an issue that will not go away.
“The fight for Vestas and for the future of wind turbine manufacture in England is far from over.”
