Detox your wardrobe and get rid of clutter with the help of a qualified image consultant and stylist Fashion guru Nicola Cupples firmly believes that everyone can feel the buzz of having new clothes without spending a penny – simply from recycling long forgotten garments to create new outfits.
Twenty-eight-year-old Nicola recommends that people take advantage of the new year by decluttering wardrobes that have transformed into a January sales esque clutter.
Nicola said: “I believe a wardrobe detox is a lot more satisfying and also easier than resisting everything with a calorie in it for the next 30 days!
“The idea is to achieve a wardrobe that contains only the items you can create an outfit from today. The process of a detox is actually really therapeutic.”
Nicola, who works independently, advises people to rummage through their wardrobes and make piles for the following categories before taking action.
l Doesn’t fit – store away out of sight or donate to charity l Don’t like anymore – donate to charity or a swap party with friends.
l Not sure if it suits me or if I like it – get a second opinion from an honest third party l Worn out and needs replacing – bin or use as dusters.
l Needs adjusting or fixing – take to a tailor.
l Not in season – store away until the weather gets warmer.
The high street consultant thinks that clients would be more likely to wear garments if they hung them up.
Things that can be worn regularly should be hung from non slip coat hangers, with nightwear, underwear, lounging around and sports clothing put in drawers.
Another of Nicola’s top tips is to stuff shoes and bags with tissue or newspaper to help them retain their original shape.
“You will find that by just following these steps it will automatically renew your desire to look good and achieve a more groomed image.
“You will become more creative and confident with your outfit choices and you will also be less inclined to go shopping for new garments every week,” added Nicola.
