A CLOSED post office in Bewsey is set to reopen its doors this new year.

Lovely Lane Post Office was one of six branches in Warrington to close early last year in a series of wide-sweeping national cuts.

But when the nearby Folly Lane post office closed in October due to its sub postmaster’s ill health, Bewsey and Whitecross was left with no facility.

Speaking at the time, Clr Jo Crotty (LD – Bewsey and Whitecross) said the closures would cause ‘serious problems’ for residents without transport.

She campaigned for the old branch to open its doors again and urged residents to send their views to Postwatch.

Now the Lovely Lane Forecourt and Spar Post Office, less than half a mile away from Folly Lane, will offer the same range of products and services, including personal banking, foreign currencies and travel insurance, and benefit payments in cash.

It will also have a modern purpose-built serving counter, forecourt parking and level access through automatic doors.

A spokesman for Post Office Ltd said the decision follows the appointment of a new subpostmaster.

Sarah Sampson, field change adviser, said: “As well as maintaining our presence in the area, this relocation will mean that we can offer an enhanced service to the community.”

Customers will benefit from extended opening hours of 9am to 5.30pm, Monday to Friday, and 9am to 12.30pm on Saturdays.

A date for the relocation has yet to be announced.
