POIGNANT tributes have been paid to a mother-of-three killed while riding her bike in Westy on Saturday morning.
Sharon Corless, aged 42, from Woolston, was in collision with a Range Rover Sport at 10.52am, near the roundabout at the junction of the A50 Kingsway North and Farrell Street.
Mrs Corless – who has a 12-year-old son, Tom, and two daughters, Olivia, aged 18, and Megan, aged 21 – died from multiple injuries at Warrington Hospital, where she worked as a support worker in women’s and children’s services.
She had been cycling with her 46-year-old husband, Peter, who was also in collision with the car. He was taken to hospital where he is in a stable condition, receiving treatment for leg and pelvic injuries.
Memorials have flooded this website's messageboard, including heartbreaking eulogies from her family.
Her young son wrote: “I cannot believe that you are no longer here with us. Nothing will ever be the same, or as good as it was without you around.
“Words will never describe the true pain I feel in my heart knowing that you will never be here to tuck me in at night or to take me to football.
“I just wish for you to always know that we will always care and love for you in our hearts, and you will be truly and deeply missed.”
Mrs Corless’s sister, Kerry, wrote: “Our precious and beautiful sister, we will never forget how special you are, although we cannot see you, we still feel you close to us. You are loved and heartbreakingly missed by your devastated family.”
An abundance of floral tributes also marks the scene of the accident.
Pinned to a bouquet of roses, one simply read: ‘Mummy x’.
Another card on a bunch of flowers read: “To my gorgeous friend Sharon. You were beautiful inside and out and now you always will be. I’ve been robbed of a very special person and I’m devastated. Love forever.”
At North Cheshire Hospitals NHS Trust’s annual general meeting on Monday, chief executive, Catherine Beardshaw, paid homage to the support worker on behalf of all her colleagues.
“She was the epitome of what we would want in our staff,” she said.
“She was cheerful, she worked hard and she got things done.
“We are devastated by what happened to Sharon and her husband and our thoughts are with her husband and children.
“We will do everything we can to support that family in the future.”
Police are investigating the accident.
A woman has been released on police bail until November 14, pending further investigation.
