CHILDREN in Warrington will get state-of-the-art care at a new health centre due to open later this year.

The new Child Development Centre will house all kinds of paediatric medicine ranging from speech therapy to physiotherapy.

The centre replaces facilities at Guardian House at Warrington Hospital, which is being demolished to make way for a new renal unit.

Bosses at Warrington Primary Care Trust, which makes health decisions in the town and controls the budget, have pledged that the centre will host top class children’s health services.

Among them will be speech and language therapists, audiology and orthoptic clinics, physiotherapists and paediatric consultants.

The new clinic will be on Sandy Lane in Orford, next to The Beeches education site.

Bernadette Jackson, the new centre’s project manager, said the development will be a vast improvement on existing facilities.

“Although the staff are highly skilled and provide a excellent services, the current Child Development Centre facilities are old and no longer provide what we need to deliver high quality services to children in Warrington,” she said.

“The new centre will give us the right environment to offer state-of-the-art care for children in the town,” she said.

Carole Hugall, one of Warrington Community Services Unit’s bosses, said: “This new building project is just one part of our commitment to providing the highest quality community health care services for Warrington.

“The teams are all looking forward to moving into the new premises and continuing to provide their services under one roof and in a community setting,” she said.

“We believe that the new, purpose-built centre will offer a much more welcoming place for children and their families to visit.”

The two-storey building will feature 11 consulting rooms, which is an increase from five at the current site, as well as office space for clinical staff and administrators.

Not sure what is different about the "state of the art" care going to be offered. the present premises offer the same services - the ones listed anyway. As a regular user of the current centre can we assume the dismal car parking has been addressed at the new site? the current one has very limited disabled spaces and these are usually taken up by staff. not a good advert for caring nhs staff when they think their need is more worthy than a sick disabled child.

totally agree jimmi. also whose bright idea was it to open a clinic in the middle of orford. why not somewhere central so people can access it easily. presumably patients come from all around the surrounding area?

presumably staff have to park somewhere so theres someone to see the kids!but i agree they should provide proper parking especially for disabled kiddies - noones need is greater. thats probably one of the reasons they're moving. i'm sure new place will have sufficient spaces as i know this has been a problem at the clinic for many years.
