A GOLF shop on Bewsey Road that was destroyed by a fire last month reopens on Saturday.

KW Golf was one of four shops in the row of terraces that suffered around £500,000 of damage after a blaze raged through the properties on June 10.

Karl Wanstall, who has owned the firm since 1986, watched in despair on the night of the fire as his shop went up in flames for the second time in almost two decades.

Karl, whose property was set on fire by youths 15 years ago, is looking forward to the shop reopening on Saturday in a premises further along Bewsey Road.

The 44-year-old said: “It has been such a nightmare getting back up and running.

“I had a delivery on the day of the fire and there was stuff that kept being delivered for a few days afterwards so my house looked like a golf shop.

“It’s been a lot of hard work and financially it has been tough as the money stopped completely, which was money to pay my suppliers and to live on.”

Karl has lost around £25,000 in stock and business since the fire five weeks ago.

He added: “It was such a mess at the old shop but we were able to save a lot of stuff and we will be having a ‘fire sale’ when we open.

“My family helped a lot in moving me from the old shop to the new one, which is much bigger so it will give me chance to stock a few more lines and I will be able to do more things.”

l Two youths, charged with arson and recklessly endangering lives, will appear at Warrington Magistrates’ Court next month.
