IT was viva Espana for children at an Appleton primary school as they got to grips with everything Spanish.
As part of a special week, pupils at St Monica’s Catholic Primary School, in Monica’s Close enjoyed a week of activities related to the country’s language and culture.
Steven Hatton, year six teacher organised and co-ordinated the week.
He said: “The children are having great fun, showing lots of enthusiasm and are developing their cultural awareness and language skills.”
Pupils started the week with a non-uniform day where they flocked to school as Barcelona players, flamenco dancers and in red and yellow to match the country’s flag.
Teachers from La Academia in Manchester visited the school and talked about the festival of San Fermin.
Children tasted paella and enchiladas and learned how to salsa dance.
Lessons were tailored around the culture with students learning about Spanish history, geography and art.
