PLANS that would have seen a cap on increasing funding for Warrington’s police have been scrapped by the Government.
News of the turnaround, which would have let the Government limit the amount of money that police forces can ask for through council tax, was welcomed by the town’s Liberal Democrats.
“We have been campaigning against these cuts since the beginning of the year and have collected more than a thousand signatures.”
Parliamentary hopeful Jo Crotty
Parliamentary hopeful Jo Crotty said: “This is great news for Warrington.
“We have been campaigning against these cuts since the beginning of the year and have collected more than a thousand signatures.”
Police in the area had budgeted for a 17 per cent rise in their funding.
“Now the police will get the money they need for important programmes like the new Town Centre Policing Unit which that will help to make areas like Bridge Street safer for everyone,” she added.
