ACCLAIMED author and illustrator Curtis Jobling lent the Warrington Guardian his creative skills when he visited the office as part of Local Newspaper Week.

Curtis, aged 36, from Westbrook, who grew up in Penketh, shot to fame after designing Bob the Builder in 1997. Since then he has written and illustrated numerous children's books, with BBC1 screening the first of 30 episodes of his creation Frankenstein's Cat last Monday.

Curtis received a tour of the editorial department and was given a lesson in subbing by deputy editor Jeremy Craddock before putting pencil to paper and drawing a picture that will be auctioned in aid of St Rocco's.

Curtis said: "I am a huge Wolves fan and I always go on to the Warrington Guardian's website for the rugby as well as keeping up to date with what is going on in the town.

"The offices reminded me of an animation studio - a hubbub of activity."

Read next week's paper to see how to win a signed copy of Curtis's picture book My Daddy and for an exclusive interview with the illustrator.
