New mobile classrooms winched in

12:30pm Thursday 24th April 2008

CHILDREN returning to school after the Easter holiday were in for a pleasant surprise to see that months of building and planning had come to an end.

With no financial assistance from central Government bodies, the governors took the matter into their own hands to improve Daresbury Primary School.

As Peter Sykes, one of the school governors and the driving force behind the building project, said: "It has been a personal crusade to strengthen and improve what is already a fantastic village school".

Plans to build two new classrooms and improve disabled access to the site were secured after Halton Borough Council promised to support the development and funds were raised.

The modular classrooms had to be lifted and positioned by a 500-tonne crane to their location on Chester Road. Last touches to the work are still to be done and it is hoped that pupils will be able to move into their new classrooms by the beginning of May.
