A SECOND drunken thug convicted of murdering Garry Newlove is appealing against his sentence.
Stephen Sorton, aged 17, of Honister Avenue in Orford was jailed for life in February and ordered to serve a minimum of 15 years behind bars.
Judith Edwards, spokesman for Cheshire Crown Prosecution Service, confirmed: "We have had notification from the Court of Appeal of Stephen Sorton's intention to apply for leave to appeal against his sentence."
Sorton's appeal follows the application lodged last month by 19-year-old Adam Swellings, the ringleader of the gang that attacked the Fearnhead father of three, to appeal against both his sentence and conviction.
Swellings, from Crewe, was jailed for life after he was found guilty of murder at Chester Crown Court in January and was ordered to serve a minimum of 17 years.
Jordan Cunliffe, aged 16, from Roland Close in Cinammon Brow was also jailed for life and ordered to serve a minimum of 12 years for Mr Newlove's murder.
Ms Edwards said the CPS had not heard from the Court of Appeal whether Jordan Cunliffe had also made an application to appeal against his sentence.
