Humanizer

11:39am Monday 10th March 2008

The Stones, The Beatles, The Smiths and Bowie are commonly listed as influences by most bands, but Humanizer say they got inspiration from a different source.

The band's guitarist and songwriter, who goes by the initials STBK, reckons Bill & Ted (of Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure) were what encouraged him to give music a go.

He said: "After watching Bogus Journey in 1992 I was hooked. I got my first guitar that Christmas and that was it."

STBK formed the band through website MySpace, where he met Catherine (keyboard), Yale (guitars), Chris (bass), Gaz (drums) He said: "I'd heard about MySpace so I put some tracks up to find more musicians to get involved - and it all went a bit mental. People seemed to really like what I was doing. It just went from there.

"For the past two years, I've pretty much written and produced everything myself, but now we've got a great group of musicians together and everyone is starting to chip in."

Humanizer say they struggle to define their style of music, but have been described as Aural Illumination' in the past, which STBK say's he'll "take".

The tracks published on MySpace have attracted attention from the US, and the band has received interest from film companies who are considering using their music.

STBK finds it bizarre that there is interest in something he started a hobby.

He said: "I still find it all a bit weird that something to pass the time can be liked so much, but it's a mad world - and I'm not grumbling."
