Prediction is spot on

YOUR recent correspondent is spot on about the crash waiting to happen' at Bridge Foot.

This town receives a lot of visitors who must be baffled by the poor lane signing at this spot which is crying out for overhead signage instead of the cheaper method of writing lane details on the carriageway. Often these cannot be read properly in inclement weather.

Money is wasted on pointless traffic signal schemes elsewhere, but a proper overhead signage system at Bridge Foot seems not to interest Warrington Borough Council, if it did, changes would have been made long ago.

Still, it is nice to know that the council has its priorities right by using a sledgehammer to crack a walnut to resolve the problem of people crossing Cromwell Avenue to get to Asda. The horrendous tailbacks, the pollution caused by stationary vehicles and traffic lights operating unnecessarily 24 hours a day need to be seen to be believed.

It does not take much to realise that, instead of constructing a simple mini roundabout at the junction of Calver Road and Cromwell Avenue, the set of lights being installed there will cause traffic to queue and tail back on to the roundabout at Winwick Road, thus paralysing traffic movement on the A49.

Where do the morons responsible for these badly thought out ventures and total waste of public money get their qualifications?

Is there no-one living locally, with a legal background, who is affected by these appalling misuses of public funds and who is willing to mount a challenge? I will gladly do the secretarial work.

Michael Dooley worries about traffic being paralised on Winwick Road as a consequence of the recent road "improvement" on Cromwell Avennue/Calver Road junction. If that happens then it is a success for road safety - stopping the traffic for a while means the average speed is reduced, and we all know slower traffic means fewer accidents! Rejoice, you impatient people, and thank our ingenius TRAFFIC MANAGERS.
A cynic.
