YOUR coverage of the Garry Newlove murder trial and the many comments regarding drunken youths prompts me to ask two things.
Firstly, why can't we follow the lead of the USA with regard to alcohol, ie not allowed in the streets, punishable by stiff fines and detention for persistent offenders?
Secondly, let us return to the days of restricted hours of opening for licenced premises.
If Cheshire police believe alcohol is a matter of grave concern this is surely worth trying.
Finally, have all the local and national newspapers considered a concerted campaign against the politicians who refuse to implement laws that actually deter crime by offering proper sentencing?
It would seem from Adam Swellings' record that he should have been serving a custodial sentence for his repeated breaches of his restraining order, rather than being left on the streets to continue his aggressive behaviour towards law-abiding citizens DAVID SPRUCE High Legh
