FIREFIGHTERS from Lymm have been called in to help tackle a huge fire at a retirement home in Crewe.
The crew have been working throughout the night at Beechmere supported living complex alongside 15 other fire engines from across Cheshire and Staffordshire.
Lymm Fire Station has provided an aerial ladder platform operated by firefighters from the village to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby properties.
The blaze started shortly after 4.30pm and on arrival, local fire crews found the roof of the 132-bedroom home to be alight.
A full and safe evacuation of residents was completed as teams worked to extinguish the flames.
As the extent of the fire began to spread throughout the building, more fire engines and crews from across the area were called in to help.
It is now being reported that the building has sustained significant damage and has partially collapsed in places.
Main jets and high-volume pumps are currently being used as well as the aerial platforms to tackle the fire inside and outside of the retirement home.
