THE opening date of the swimming pool at Great Sankey Neighbourhood Hub has been delayed.

Previously due to open in autumn this year, operator Livewire is now unable to confirm a scheduled completion date for the project.

Delays have been caused by a ‘potential design issue’, with no revised opening date to be set until the facility has been handed over the Warrington Borough Council by BAM Constriction.

A council spokesman said: “The council has very recently been made aware of a potential design issue in relation to the swimming pool at the Great Sankey Neighbourhood Hub.

“We are in regular contact with the contractor to understand more about what changes, if any, are going to be required and what implications this may have on the opening date for the swimming pool.

“While there will undoubtedly be a delay in the pool’s opening, Warrington Borough Council is insistent on having the project delivered to the highest standards – it is therefore right that a review of the design is undertaken.

“Once we have further information regarding the revised pool opening dates we will provide a full update.”

A spokesman for Livewire added: “Livewire are extremely keen to get the facility open as soon as possible, but recognise the need to ensure that the facilities are fit for purpose before they are handed over.

“Once further information is available we will advise all customers accordingly.”
