A GARDEN created by staff and inmates at Thorn Cross prison has impressed the judges at Southport Flower Show.

Designed on the theme of Alice in Wonderland it included giant toadstools, a pocket watch and a variety of plants.

And the work of the inmates impressed the judges at the festival held over the weekend.

It won the Flower Show Committee trophy for best public garden, the Lady Pilkington Trophy for the garden which best depicts the theme of the show and the Large Gold Medal for the creativity on display.

This year’s Southport Flower Show, partnered by Everest, had a show theme of Once Upon A Time, with a fairy-tale feel to many of the show gardens and events.
