Meanwhile, Cheshire Police is expected to refer itself to the Independent Office of Police Conduct over its handling of the incident.

It is believed that the force attended the address on Sunday night, hours before the man was found dead.

A Cheshire Police spokesman said: “A complaint in relation to this matter has been received by the constabulary.

“This is currently being reviewed by the professional standards department, and they are in the process of contacting the complainant.

“Therefore it would be inappropriate to comment at this stage.

“In the interests of transparency, the constabulary is in the process of referring the case to the IOPC.”
