A ‘LOVING’ husband, dad and granddad has been remembered 20 years on from his sudden death at the age of 45.

Alan Roughley, from Orford, died suddenly on August 8 1998 due to undiagnosed heart disease and severe coronary artery atheroma.

He had previously lived a normal, healthy life.

Now, two decades later, his family have raised more than £1,000 for the British Heart Foundation in his memory.

More than 100 friends and family attended a charity disco in memory of Alan, originally from Orford, at the Woolston Social Club on Friday, August 3.

Daughter Jenny said: “Dad was a fun-loving person who loved being around his family and friends, so holding a party in his memory seemed like the perfect idea.

“It was amazing to see all those that meant something to our dad come together to celebrate his life.

“We are delighted to have raised an increase £1,170 for the British Heart Foundation’s life-saving research.

“Although we know that cannot bring our dad back, it’s an amazing feeling to be able to donate this money to the British Heart Foundation to help save another life and prevent another family going through the heartache that we have.”

In addition to ticket sales, money was raised through a raffle, auction, stand-up bingo and hair-dying.

Charity fundraising manager Leah Goodhind said: “We never cease to be amazed by the extraordinary ways people like Jenny fundraise for the British Heart Foundation, and we’re incredible grateful to them for raising £1,170.

“We urgently need more people to join our fight for every heartbeat and help power our life-saving research.

“That’s why we’re calling on everyone across the UK to organise their own fundraising event to help support our vital work.”
