IT was a productive week for St Helens Town as they recorded their first home win of the season before picking up a point on the road.

They played out a 2-2 draw at Bacup Borough on Saturday – a game which came just 48 hours after a dominant 3-0 win over Atherton LR at the Arcoframe Stadium.

Both sides had chances in the early stages at Bacup, but it was Town who took the lead when skipper Liam Dodd powered home a header from Danny Greene’s lofted free kick.

They held that lead going into the break, but the hosts dominated after the interval and eventually levelled when substitute Bobby Carter headed home an Anthony Hall cross.

Hall went from provider to scorer just three minutes later as his trickery inside the area won Bacup a penalty, which he picked himself up to convert.

The hosts continued to dominate but could not make the most of it, and St Helens made them pay in injury time when Neil Weaver’s deflected shot found its way into the net to rescue a point.

That preserved their unbeaten start to the North West Counties First Division North campaign after their convincing win on Thursday.

They dominated Atherton from the start, with Sean Richards finally giving them the lead in first-half stoppage time.

Town continued in the same vein after the break as goals from Dodd and Luke Edwards sealed the points

They sit third in the table and host AFC Darwen on Saturday, kick off 3pm, followed by a trip to AFC Blackpool on Tuesday, kick off 7.45pm.
