A GROUP of 17 youngsters with cerebral palsy have taken a big step towards independence after attending education sessions run by regional charity Stick ‘n’ Step in Runcorn and Wallasey,

The children enjoyed an action-packed overnight stays at Barnstondale, the inclusive adventure and activity centre in Wirral.

Three groups, ranging in age from 7 to 21, stayed in the centre’s log cabins and tried out climbing, abseiling, archery and kayaking, along with five day visitors.

The trip was made possible thanks to the generosity of Barbara Ward Children’s Foundation and Pom Charitable Trust.

Operations manager at Stick ‘n’ Step Sarah Smithson said: “Everything we do at Stick ‘n’ Step is about helping the children to gain the skills they need to maximise their potential and to live independent lives.

"These Barnstondale visits are a fantastic opportunity for the children to push themselves to try things they may have never tried before and learn new skills.

"We are so grateful to Barbara Ward Children’s Charity and Pom Charitable Trust for making it possible.”

Stick ‘n’ Step offers support services to children with cerebral palsy and their families.

The charity provides the children with free conductive education sessions, allowing them to gain the skills they need to live independent lives.

More than 80 children, from across the region, attend these sessions weekly or twice weekly at the charity’s Wallasey and Runcorn centres.
