A MUSIC festival was held at the weekend to commemorate the life of Daniel Fox, close to what would have been his 31st birthday.

Daniel was stabbed to death at age 29 in September 2016 in St Helens town centre.

'Foxyfest' was held at the Empire on Westfield Street on Saturday (August 11) to celebrate the life of the popular care worker.

Daniel would have turned 31 on Tuesday.

The festival, which had originally been planned to take place at Saints' stadium, was moved to the Empire, a bigger and more central venue.

The night saw acts including Olivia Parr, former X factor star Kiera Weathers and Titors Insignia take to the stage.

Relatives including Daniel's mum Lynda Ashton and auntie Dawn Jones attended the event.

In a statement, after the event Danny's family said: "Massive thank you to The Empire Club for hosting Foxyfest last night and to Olivia Parr, Polka, Titors Insignia, Kiera Weathers and Caution for all the brilliant entertainment all night.

"Massive thank you to Peter Edwards, Eren Yurdakurban, Rachael Wilcockand all the staff and door security at Empire.

Last and not least thank you so much to everyone who came and made Foxyfest so special and your kind support."

The family of Daniel launched the Daniel Fox Foundation in his memory last year, which aims to end knife crime.

Among the aims of the #NoMoreKnives campaign was to raise funds to purchase knife detectors or similar deterrents for pubs and bars in St Helens.

Campaigners have looked to get the message through about the horrific consequences of carrying knives.

In March it was announced that 70 knife wands will be used in bars and clubs across the borough – three months after the campaign was launched.
