A MUM-OF-TWO boys who both suffer from types of diabetes has released a single in the hope that it will inform people of the symptoms and daily struggle her family face.

Leanne Lochhead, from Padgate, was a single parent to her two boys when her youngest son Beren was diagnosed with the life-threatening disease at just three-and-a-half.

She describes the 'constant juggling act' of trying to balance Beren's blood levels.

Leanne's song Guardian Angel describes her family's experience with the life-threatening disease.

An accompanying music video, which is still in the making, shows raw and honest footage of the countless injections Beren must have done every day to raise awareness.

Leanne hopes the video and song will be an eye opener for others and that it will enable parents to spot the signs of type one diabetes early.

Leanne, 36, said: "Beren's pancreas just stopped working and he has a pump which produces insulin for him.

"There are a lot of long term complications including organ failure and amputation."

The diagnosis came as a complete shock to Leanne who had heard of the disease but not of the details.

She had to give up work to care for Beren full-time.

Leanne continued: "I have to check everything he eats and he has a monitor injected under his skin 24/7.

"I get up every night at 3am to feed him jelly babies to maintain his blood sugars.

"Even when Beren is playing outside, I have to keep an eye on him constantly in case he gets very tired all of a sudden."

Leanne was able to spot the symptoms early as her other son Viggo has suffered from diabetes insipidus since birth.

Diabetes insipidus is not related to diabetes but the signs and symptoms are very similar.

The former Woolston High School pupil said: "We assumed that Beren had the same thing as Viggo and without doing tests he was dangerously put on the same medication as his brother.

"He could have got blood poisoning."

The music video portrays the warning signs of type one diabetes, Leanne says she is lucky in a sense that she was familiar with diabetic symptoms from Viggo's experience.

Beren, now aged six, faces a daily struggle which no youngster should have to experience.

Leanne's song Guardian Angel is available to download from all music streaming services and all proceeds raised from the single will be donated to type one diabetes charity Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, (JDRF).

So far Leanne has raised more £700.
