A VULNERABLE man was attacked by a gang on the doorstep of his own home after falling victim to what is believed to be a mistaken identity.

The 40-year-old answered a knock at the door of his home on Hoyle Street in Bewsey at around 11.45pm on Tuesday, August 7.

He was greeted by three men when he answered the door, and was punched in the face before the attack continued – causing him to fall to the floor.

His attackers then ran away from the house in the direction of Hoyle Street.

The victim was taken to Warrington Hospital after suffering an injury to his eye.

One of the men was wearing a motorcycle helmet, a dark green bomber jacket and black cargo trousers, with the other two wearing camouflage jackets, black trousers and motorcycle helmets.

Detective constable Jonathan Carter said: “This was a vicious assault on an innocent and vulnerable man in a case which we believe was a targeted attack on the wrong person.

“I would urge anyone who may be able to help with our investigation to come forward and call 101.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact Cheshire Police on 101, quoting incident number IML148083, or to call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
