LOOK who will be trying to bowl each other over this weekend, writes Nathan Okell.

The Wire and Saints head coaches, Steve Price and Justin Holbrook, will square up on the green on Sunday rather than from the coach's dug-out at the Totally Wicked Stadium.

Their clash is set to be just one of the highlights as the Steve Prescott Foundation host the Barton’s Pickles JV Crown Green Bowls Challenge at Ruskin Sports Village in St Heens, starting at noon.

Participants also include Warrington Wolves' assistant coach Lee Briers and Warrington-based boxing world title contender Martin Murray, along with St Helens comic Johnny Vegas and Royle Family actor Ricky Tomlinson, who will be contesting for the Lol Pennington Memorial Cup in what looks to be an entertaining afternoon all for a good cause.

Rival rugby coaches Holbrook and Price have a long history with each other spanning back to playing junior rugby together back in Australia.

Price revealed: “We won an under 7s Grand Final together at our junior club back in Australia.

“I was only four and he was six at the time.

“He was scoring all the tries and I was just throwing out the game plans for him.

“We have a really good relationship. He’s a good family friend and there’s a lot of mutual respect between us."

On this occasion, however, both men will be looking to get the better of each other, especially following the Saints-Warrington Super League match-up two weeks ago, which saw Danny Richardson’s 55-metre penalty after the hooter snatch the points for the Saints.

Each high-profile player will have a partner on the green who made the highest bid for the privelege to take part.

Other high-profile celebrities participating include Saints forward Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook, ABC lead singer Martin Fry, Phoenix Nights star Archie Kelly, Emmerdale actor Mike Parr, Sian Gibson from Peter Kay’s Car Share and many more.

Mountain Monkeys will be providing a range of activities in the adrenalin zone, including climbing walls, archery and axe throwing, while The Event Station based at Carden Park Hotel will be hosting an inflatable arena, including football darts and a special prize for the winner.

The Rugby Football League will be also be providing their ManVan with all kinds of interactive games and also a Gents Barbers.

The Noah Experience Reptile Show will also be on hand as well as a face painting station, raffle, Tombola, BBQ from Sticky Wicket plus much more fun and games.

A donation is required upon entry to Ruskin Drive, with all money raised being split between Bev Dixon and Linzi Prescott’s Everest Challenge, which is due to start in October.

On the event, Linzi Prescott said: "I cannot thank Johnny Vegas and all the celebrities enough for supporting Bev and I for our Everest BC Challenge.

“We staged a bowling event three years ago with Johnny, it was an exceptional day and a huge success.

“Johnny's Dad Lol, who sadly passed away last year, absolutely loved the event and it is fitting that we hold the day in the memory of him.

“I am sure Lol and Stephen will be looking down on us all and will be with us in spirit on the day.”
