AN eleven-year-old girl has raised thousands of pounds for her school and the hospital that has supported her for much of her life after organising a sponsored run for hundreds of youngsters.

Ruby Peters’ run saw pupils from Woolston Community Primary School complete as many laps of the school field as they could on Wednesday, June 20.

More than £3,000 raised through the event will go towards a running track at the school, as well as Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool - where the year six student has received treatment since the age of two.

Dad Phillip, from Woolston, said: “It’s a big achievement, and the school said it is the biggest amount they’ve raised with any event.

“She’s been back and to from Alder Hey all the time since she was two, and it’s great for a young kid to give something back.”

Ruby - who completed eight laps of the field alongside her friends - presented a cheque to hospital staff on her birthday, while the running track will allow youngsters at the school to run a mile a day from September onwards.

She has previously collected toys and selection boxes for Alder Hey at Christmas, and donated 140 Easter eggs earlier this year.

Phillip said: “The first thing she wanted to do when she woke up on her birthday was to take that cheque to Alder Hey.

“The hospital is brilliant, and they were over the moon when we took the cheque.

“It’s a big achievement for an 11-year-old kid.”

Mum Amanda added: “It was all her idea - she spoke to the headmaster to organise the sponsored run and for all the school to be involved.

“I’m very proud of her - she’s a lovely girl and she’s very thoughtful.”
