A COUPLE of weeks ago I got thoroughly steamed up about Gary Bebbington’s letter referring to the advantages of bringing back National Service (Warrington Guardian, July 5).

I calmed down a bit the following week when another letter appeared which eloquently described the treatment and conditions National Servicemen experienced at the time.

Being whisked away from family, including in some cases wives and many cases girlfriends, home, job and friends for two years was bad enough but in my case at age 21 being paid £1.375 per week for the first six months for the privilege was an insult.

Think again Mr Bebbington, ignorance is not bliss.

I’m now back to steamed up mode after reading Gary Bebbington’s latest letter tarring all the residents of Dallam with the same brush ie having no appreciation or respect as to what Warrington Borough Council is trying to do for them (Warrington Guardian, July 26).

How dare he, who on earth does he think he is? I have known people from that part of town and have found them to be decent, hardworking folk.

Carry on brushing and shovelling Mr Bebbington, it is your choice, but please don’t put yourself up for plaudits, and an even bigger please, stop writing things you know nothing about.

How about a hobby?
