A NEW community base in the heart of one of the town's best known parks has opened.

Bank Park Pavilion is situated next to the Town Hall by the park’s all-weather bowling green, and is available for hire to community groups and private parties.

Boasting a café and a large, adaptable interior space, the pavilion also gives Warrington Borough Council’s neighbourhoods team a central Warrington venue for hosting community health and wellbeing events.

Cllr Tony Higgins, executive board member for community, leisure and neighbourhoods, said: “I am delighted that we have been able to provide the neighbourhoods team with a town centre base as a focal point for activities, events and campaigns. The location is perfect for year-round events within easy reach of thousands of people.

"There are already plans afoot for teddy bear picnics and First World War commemoration events.”

Guests at the official opening on Monday were introduced to the prominent public health campaigns while the Warrington’s wellbeing service offered tips and support for making lifestyle changes and improving mental health.

Cllr Maureen McLaughlin, executive board member for public health and wellbeing, said: “Bank Park Pavilion will be a key asset in our engagement with residents around health and wellbeing and the fact that it’s located within an attractive public park makes it a wonderful asset for the wider community as well.”
