FAMILIES and friends raised thousands of pounds for charities close to their hearts by taking part in a family fun run at Gulliver’s World in Old Hall.

People of all ages came together and walked, ran or toddled the mile course around the theme park including seven-year-old Leon Hoey who has recently undergone surgery.

The youngster, who has cystic fibrosis, was raising money for the Warrington Wolves Foundation.

Shaun Briscoe, partnership manager at The Warrington Wolves Foundation came along to Gulliver’s World for the day to show his support.

He said: “Leon Hoey who is just seven years old is here running in the one-mile fun run.

"This is something which wouldn’t have been possible a year ago.

"He has recently undergone surgery and has cystic fibrosis.

"Leon is part of our physical disability Rugby Team which welcomes players of all ages and abilities, we adjust the rules so that its fair for all and they all have a brilliant time."

Jamie Barnett, 12, ran beside Leon in the fun run and is also a player in the physical disability team for Warrington Wolves Foundation.

With more than 800 participants it was a huge success with people raising money for a number of charities including the Warrington Wolves Foundation, St. Rocco’s Hospice and national charities, such as Cancer Research UK and The British Red Cross.

Margaret Larson, who works in the catering department at Gulliver’s World, also took part in the one-mile race.

At 75 years old it was her first time as a participant in the fun run and she loved every minute.

Margaret said: “I have worked at Gulliver’s World for more than six years now and the fun run is one of the highlights of the year, it’s such an enjoyable day for all.

"This is the first year I have taken part in the race though, and I’m now about to get changed into my uniform to start work, what a way to start the day."
