A DECISION on a site at the centre of a planning battle has been delayed.

Planning enforcement officers launched an investigation in May after land formerly home to Caddick's Clematis Nursery, on Lymm Road, was unlawfully being used for vehicle parking.

In March, Cheshire Airport Parking Ltd submitted proposals to develop a 1,000-space storage facility on the land.

The design and access statement, prepared by application agent Barton Willmore, on behalf of Cheshire Airport Parking, confirmed the applicant's 'commercial operations' relate to the provision of off-site parking for customers of the Clayton Hotel at Manchester Airport, who wish to park their cars or vans while on holiday.

However, the company has been using the site despite having no permission to do so.

The application was due to come before the development management committee at the Town Hall on Wednesday but it has been pushed back.

A council spokeswoman said it is because the application 'is still being assessed'.

She added: "Further information has been requested from the applicant and a site meeting is taking place."

As reported on June 26, a High Court judge has granted an extension to an injunction ordering cars parked on the site without planning permission to be removed.

Cheshire Police went on a joint visit with the council last month after receiving a complaint.

But the force determined that it is a 'civil dispute' and any action, therefore, will be taken by the council.
