GIRLS can give rugby league a try at Woolston Rovers and Culcheth Eagles rugby league clubs this weekend.

Fresh impetus is being placed on the girls' game in Warrington in the lead up to the 2021 Rugby League World Cup in England.

Youngsters can turn up and train at Culcheth's Shaw Lane playing fields on Saturday between 10am and 2pm for a festival of girls' rugby league.

An under 12s tournament will be taking centre stage and there will be appearances by members of the England women's rugby league team too.

While at Woolston Rovers, the first of four Sunday one-hour taster sessions start this weekend.

The sessions, split into two age groups - seven to 10 year olds and 11 to 15 year olds - will take place on the club's main pitch at Monks Sports Club, Hillock Lane.

This Sunday's taster will start at 10am, as will the July 29, August 12 and August 19.

Under nines head coach Mark Robinson, who will be heading up the sessions, said: “I recently had a few girls join my team, and this had led to others being interested in the sport.

"I spotted that as a club, we could build a young girls coaching academy.

"By doing so, the girls could learn and feel comfortable whilst training alongside other girls new to rugby league.

"The aim is to one day run girls’ teams from under 12s upwards."

Rovers chiefs are asking for girls or their parents to register their interest via the following contacts:
