FIREFIGHTERS tackled a fire at a flat in Orford yesterday, Tuesday.
Crews from Warrington and Penketh attended Poplars Avenue at around 11.20pm where they found a first floor flat was involved.
A smoke alarm was sounding and all persons were accounted for.
Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.
The team then damped the area down to make sure it was safe and used a large high pressure fan to clear the smoke from the property.
A cat was rescued from the flat and a man suffering from the affects of smoke inhalation was handed over to the care of paramedics.
He was taken to hospital via ambulance.
Firefighters were in attendance for around 55 minutes.
