A COUPLE who met while dancing at a youth club are celebrating 66 years of marriage.
Iris and David Mee, from Hollins Green, wed on June 20, 1952. They met as youngsters in Irlam while dancing at a youth club and married a short time later at St Mary’s Church in Cadishead.
Iris, 88, a former secretary, moved into Birch Court Care Home last year and David has visited her in the care home every day since.
The pair have enjoyed many holidays over the years and playing crown green bowls, 90-year-old David, a former design engineer, still plays and has no plans of stopping. Birch Court hosted a party for the couple and their family to celebrate their anniversary as Iris was too ill to mark their 65th milestone last year and spent the day in hospital.
Daughter Susan Turner, 62, said: “It was a lovely celebration at the care home for my parents, mum was in hospital last year and so they couldn’t do anything special.”
The couple have one grandchild and had a fantastic day on their anniversary.
