ONE of the world's biggest bands have got behind RivFest with a message of support for the music event.

Coldplay sent 'love and best wishes' to the festival in memory of Viola Beach guitarist River Reeves while also sharing a video of headliners The Lottery Winners.

River's brother Fin, who works at production company Dock10 shot the live film of The Lottery Winners performing their track Little Things in the studio where The Jeremy Kyle Show is filmed at MediaCity. He was assisted by a team of about 15 who all gave their time for free.

RivFest takes place this Friday and Saturday. The Parr Hall hosts the festival's Breaking Through showcase on Friday with The Lottery Winners then on Saturday the festival becomes a multi-venue event in the Cultural Quarter with Fickle Friends closing the show.

On Facebook Coldplay said: "Sending love and best wishes to RivFest, which takes place this weekend in venues around Warrington, in memory of River Reeves and his Viola Beach bandmates and manager.

"On Friday, up-and-coming band The Lottery Winners will play Parr Hall. Check out their new video, directed by River's older brother Fin."

Fin added: “Doing the video was amazing. It kind of came out of nothing. I was asked if I could shoot a video to promote RivFest and it kind of grew from there.

"A few people from work got on board and took it on as a side project. We wanted it to have a stripped back studio look so you could almost see the cameras and the backdrop was just the studio walls. We wanted it to have the same look as the 70s and 80s music show, The Old Grey Whistle Test."

It is not the first time Coldplay have paid tribute to Viola Beach since the tragic crash in Sweden which claimed their lives in 2016.

Coldplay created an 'alternate future' for the Warrington band when Chris Martin 'let them headline Glastonbury for a song' by covering their single Boys That Sing.
