AN inmate at HMP Risley has been charged in connection with the shooting of a mum and her seven-year-old son on the doorstep of their own home.

Prisoner James Coward, 22, has been charged with conspiracy to pervert the course of justice following the incident in 2015.

Jayne Hickey, 30, and her seven-year-old son Christian were shot at their home in Salford on Monday, October 12, of that year.

The pair were rushed to hospital following the shooting and underwent a number of surgeries before being discharged.

Three men – 48-year-old Christopher Hall, of HMP Manchester, 31-year-old Aldaire Warmington, of HMP Hollesley Bay, and 49-year-old John Thomasson, from Stockport – have been charged with conspiracy to murder and conspiracy to pervert the cause of justice in connection with the attack.

Two others – 26-year-old Dominic Walton, of HMP Long Lartin, and 31-year-old Lincoln Warmington, from Salford – have also been charged with conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

They are due to appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates Court to face these charges today, Thursday.

And two men have also been charged following a shooting believed to be linked to that of Ms Hickey and her son – in which a 28-year-old man was shot at a car wash in Ashton-in-Makerfield in March 2015.

Fifty-three-year-old John Kent has been charged with conspiracy to murder and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice while Jacob Harrison, 25, has also been charged with conspiracy to murder.

Both men, who are from Salford, are also due to appear in court today, Thursday.

The charges follow a series of raids in Salford, Stockport and Somerset on Tuesday.

Detective chief inspector Carl Jones, of Greater Manchester Police’s major incident team, said on Tuesday: “It has been almost three years since a young boy and his mum were shot on the doorstep of their own home in an incident that shocked members of the public nationwide.

“We have had a team of detectives working meticulously ever since, and today’s warrants have come as a result of their hard work.”
