FIREFIGHTERS tackled an arson attack at a car wash in the town centre late last night.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to ProShine Hand Car Wash on Tanners Lane shortly after 11pm yesterday, Thursday, with two engines sent to the scene.

Crews discovered a sofa and industrial recycling bin on fire, with the blaze having spread to a shipping container used as the site office.

Firefighters spent around 40 minutes tackling the fire, which is believed to have been started deliberately.

Cheshire Police are now urging anyone who witnessed the fire being started or saw anything suspicious in the area to get in touch.

Detective Constable Darren Burns, of Warrington CID, said: “Thankfully no-one was injured by the fire but arson is a serious and potentially life-threatening crime and we are determined to catch whoever was responsible and bring them to justice.

“Enquiries are ongoing and I appeal to anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area around the time of the fire, thinks they may know who started it or has any other information that may help our investigation to call Cheshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 100554, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
