A WOMAN who worked in Cockhedge Mill celebrated her 100th birthday with her best friend of more than 50 years by her side.

Ethel Lunt reached the birthday milestone last Wednesday, June 13 at the Belong Care Village in Latchford where she moved to last autumn.

Family, friends and staff organised a special birthday party for Ethel at the care home.

Ethel lived on Wilderspool Causeway and met her best friend Meegan Nevinson in 1967 while working at Cockhedge Mill.

Ethel was married to Cliff who died 12 years ago – they did not have any children.

Meegan brought a cake for Ethel and the party was also attended by Beryl Langley – the daughter of Ethel's cousin.

Ethel said she didn't expect to reach 100 but she loved the party and was delighted to receive a letter from The Queen.

M&S donated flowers for the party which was attended by the Mayor of Warrington, Cllr Karen Mundry.

Acoustic guitarist Jane Rigby played nostalgic songs from the 1950s which Ethel loved.

Before moving to the care village, Ethel enjoying making tapestries and holidays in Conway with her late husband Cliff.
