TWO 14-year-old boys from Merseyside were arrested after allegedly stealing a bike from under the nose of a man who was attempting to make a sale via Facebook Marketplace.

The victim reportedly met up with the prospective buyer at Warrington Bank Quay before heading to his home in Whitecross to inspect the bicycle.

The buyer went on a test ride but he quickly cycled off at speed without paying.

A description of the suspect was given to the police who passed on the information to the town centre CCTV operator.

A short time later they spotted a teen matching the description of the suspect at Warrington Central station.

PC Graham Davies attended and arrested two teens after a brief chase across the platform.

The bike has since been returned to the victim.

No further action will be taken against one of the 14 year olds while the other suspect has been released pending further enquiries.

A police spokesman said: "Facebook Marketplace is an excellent way to sell your goods - but please take care when closing the deal.

"It's not always a happy ending if all goes Pete Tong."
